'Molecular Mechanisms of Cell Signaling'







1. Signal Transduction Introductory Course
    4 ECTS
    in SS 2010, mandatory for UW and MUW students

2. Advanced Methods Workshop
    2 ECTS each, choose 2 out of 5
    
can be credited towards Thesis Seminars

Cell Culture (Kovarik, Meskiene, Ogris), planned to be end of March/April

Advanced Light Microscoopy (Foisner, Gotzmann), practical part planned to be in summer

3. VBC Lecture Series
    2 ECTS, choose 2 out of 6 lectures
    This years topic and schedule: 'Systems Biology of Gene Regulation'
     can be credited towards Thesis Seminars    

4. Journal Club
    6 ECTS, mondays, 16.30 - 18.00, SR1, 6th floor

6. Presentation and communication skills
     2 ECTS, free to choose
     this is part of the Propedeutics for the MUW students

7.
Elective courses
     4 ECTS
     UW students are encouraged to attend Propedeutics from the MUW
     it is also possible to acquire ECTS for summer schools and International workshops - a detailed schedule and an attendance letter are
     needed as records

Admission UW: register online
MUW: fill in the admission form and
questionnaire

Bring printouts and the following documents to the manager:
  • Passport
  • Foto
  • diploma of your master thesis
  • transcripts of your master studies
  • for non-EU citiziens: certificate that you are allowed to pursue PhD studies in your home country
 Registration UW: fill in and sign the following forms:        write a thesis proposal - max. 10 A4 pages - containing the
       following points:
  • information about your project
  • state of the art relevant for your project
  • proposed methodology
  • relevant literature
  • contact details of your advisor
  • your PhD committee
  • time schedule, financial apects and ressources

MUW: fill in and sign registration form
         write a thesis proposal using this form
         (thesis proposal - example)

You have to
defend your proposal infront of the faculty - this will be done as 'closed presentation' in your first Work in Progress.

Registration and defense has to be done within the first 6 month of your PhD (UW + MUW).
 
Progress report

 at least every year to your PhD committee - UW and MUW students
